Whenever I visit Daiso, I always end up finding something to add to my collection. This time, it's this:
Cupcake Mug with Lid
Both the mug and the lid are made of glazed ceramic. It is thick-walled and I think, the actual amount of liquid it could hold is around 8 oz. Though it will be nice to cook some mug cakes on it, it is not microwave nor oven safe.
So cute and looks yummy enough to eat!
I guess, this mug will be perfect with some red velvet hot chocolate. Yum!
I am the kind of person who feels uncomfortable when colors does not match or, at least, complement each other. With that, my things are usually the same shade of the same color.
As you know by now, I have an automatic drip brewer in hot pink. I had been looking for a hot pink mug to match it for quite some time now to no avail. Most of the cups I see at the mall are made of plastic and the ceramic ones are usually pale pink.
Then, on my most recent trip to Daiso, I found this:
Color Life glass mug
A glass mug with a hot pink handle!
The plastic handle detaches from the glass cup.
It's like it was meant to go with my coffee maker.
I'm so happy how it matches my pink and glass carafe.
The product is called 'Cappuccino Mixer' and is powered by two AA batteries. The package includes the device and a stand.
It says on the packaging that the 'mixer's head' can be removed and washed but I haven't figured out how to detach it. I decided not to force my luck or I might end up breaking the thing.
There are more information at the back of the packaging:
Though the basic instructions and caution are in 'Engrish', they are quite easy to understand...or so I thought...
I had a bit of a struggle with the positioning of the batteries. The symbols (+ -) indicated on the packaging differs from what is on the gadget itself. I followed the symbols on the gadget and ended up having one of the batteries stucked and, of course, the gadget not working. Luckily, my boyfriend was able to get it out. We then followed the instructions on the packaging and it finally started whirring!
Alright, time to test this baby!
I know that making a cappuccino requires an espresso machine, which I don't have. I only got a humble (though in hot pink) coffee maker, so I guess, this will have to make do.
Hmmmmmm...I sooo love the smell of brewing coffee. Meanwhile, I was also warming some milk.
Once the milk is hot (but not boiling), I poured it into a mug and started frothing.
When frothing the milk, The 'mixer's head' should be just below the surface. Make sure to dip the head first into the milk before turning the gadget on or there you'll be getting an unexpected milk shower. You'll know you're doing the right thing when the milk forms a whirlpool. Then, move the gadget in a gentle up and down motion for about 30 seconds or until the milk gets nice and foamy.
Pour coffee about halfway of your mug. At this point, you can add sweetener if you like. I added a teaspoon of brown sugar on mine. Then, gently pour about the same amount of milk. Finally, spoon some of the milk foam on top. I also sprinkled the foam with some cinnamon. I bet cocoa powder or chocolate shavings will be nice too!
Take a sip, sigh, then, smile.
Here's my cappuccino.
My boyfriend's attempt at 'latte art'.
Milk frothing ability-wise, I could say that this Cappuccino Mixer did a great job! I am usually reluctant of buying things that can only do one thing (this device should not be used to beat eggs or whip cream with) but this device is so inexpensive. For only Php88, it lets me have a taste of cafe-made coffee at home anytime. Other handheld and electric jug-type frothers may cost hundreds, even, thousands of pesos, so I'm glad I was able to find a cheap one that works the same. However, I think I might need to be more careful with it if I want it to last (this applies to almost anything, anyway).
